Three Feet To Pass
“Three feet to pass a cyclist in a car.” This morning, SB 566 will be heard in committee in the Virginia Senate. SB 566 is the Senate version of Virginia’s own three feet legislation, but it also outlaws tailgating, and creates a a new Class 3 misdemeanor of Careless Driving — to counter the difficulty of charging motorists with Reckless Driving when they kill or injure cyclists. This bill, along with the House version HB 1048, are the most directly relevant to cyclists in Virginia this year. Before you go to work today, please contact your Virginia representative, and let them know that you support this legislation.
Weights!
It’s that time of year again. Ok, so here’s what I’ve learned during my last 6 months or so of training outdoors. Doing strength training using your body weight, e.g. push-ups and pull-ups, is ok for improving your strength, or maintaining your strength. There are certain advantages to using freeweights for the same purpose. The biggest of which is the level of the intensity of stimulation that you can deliver to your muscles with freeweights. So, I got some excellent feedback from Andy Orwig, a college educated (B.S. Exercise Science) personal trainer, and based on his feedback, I think that I’m going to incorporate some indoor freeweight training into my Winter training.

For The Hail Of It
I was riding in the hail this morning. Sharp. Getting my face sanded by the hail. The gods had mercy on me, and after I stretched, the hail stopped. I hit the fitness apparatus out in West Falls Church with some light exercise, then cruised home to practice some tricks on the basketball court near my house.
