Chincoteague Day Three

Last day on the island.  I took advantage and had an early morning ride out to Assateague Island to catch the sunrise. The ride out there was an almost zen like experience.  There was no one around, and only the sounds of nature and the ocean.  I had the roads to myself, and the beach to myself.  If you’re in to cycling (preferably fixed gear cycling), the Chincoteague is a wonderful destination.  It’s flat, 25 mph speed limits on the roads, the folks are friendly and watch out for cyclists, and there are a lot of places to explore!

Chincoteague Day Two

I went out for a dawn ride around Chincoteague.  Cool, really fresh air, no one out, it was great.  The my brother and I went out to a barrier island, and took some cool pics of some derelict houses, and some nature shots.  I tried some fishing, but no luck.  The locals told me that there wouldn’t be any fishing action down here until December.  After a snooze, we rode up to the north end of the island, he on his moped, and me on the Rush.  Good dinner, and a trip to Mr. Wipees… fun day.

Chincoteague Day One

I’m on a short break down on the eastern shore.  Having a great time, but missing my wife and son, and wish that they were here.  I’ve got my Rush down here, and there is great riding, all flat, all 25 mph streets.  I hooked up with my brother and we went on a cycling tour of the island.  He on a moped, and me on my fixie.  We saw a cool old wooden ship, talked to some local folks, and then went shooting.  A good time was had by all.

Greens and Blues

Man, after yesterday’s gray rainy day, seeing the sun out and the sky blue with white clouds really made the colors stand out.  The pictures don’t do the views justice.  I took a light relaxing ride on the Rush today.  I was, ahem, just a tad stiff from my ride yesterday.

Book Festival

I rode the Rush down into DC today for the 2009 Book Festival.  Quite a crowd!  I saw the exhibits, ate some hotdogs, and acted like a tourist in general.  Today I also went over 4000 miles for the year!

Dumpin’

I went for a short ride on the El Mariachi.  Ridin’ some trails in the hood.  On one of the trails near Fort Reynolds Civil War site, things got out of hand.  Captured on camera, can you tell which picture was taken as I dumped my bike?  Wonder what I may have been saying?

Lake Barcroft Hills

These pictures don’t really do the hills of Lake Barcroft justice, but take my word for it, it’s hilly.  I rode into Falls Church, and rode around Lake Barcroft on the Rush.  And came home to the laziest cat in town.
