Last day of August

Well, well, well.  August is over.  This has been a great summer, and I have to say that I’ve gotten in my share of riding.  Today I went out in the afternoon with my nephew.  We did a short hard ride of ~18 miles.  The trail was very crowded with people out enjoying the perfect weather.  Then we stuffed our faces on Subway sandwiches at our pool where my son is a lifeguard.  Fun, and a great way to say goodbye to August.

Georgetown

I rode down to Georgetown today to take care of some business, and do some tourist site-seeing.  Absolutely beautiful weather, warm, and not too humid.  My legs are sore, and I’m thinking that they may need some sort of rest.  Will need to figure this out tomorrow.

August wrap up

Well, August, and the summer are coming to an end.  You can see that the shadow cast by the sun is already getting long.  I took the Rush out for a ride today, pretty hard.  My legs are sore!  Just like back in the Spring when I was sick of the cold, I’m ready to enjoy some cooler weather, and get back into the routine of work.

Climbing the hills

I had a fun ride on the El Mariachi today.  I took it down to the Fairlington Community Center and rode the hills and obstacles that are nearby.  Steep hills.  Down the stairs.  The El Mariachi floated over all of them.  Good workout too!  Minor irritation with a community member running her dog off the leash, both she and I were silly people, but for my part, her flaunting the leash law really gauls me.  Still don’t know what to make of this, because nobody really cares about this, so why should I?

Summer winding down

Still feeling pretty darn chipper.  Busted out some bench reps on the exercise ball, and went for a hard bike ride on the Fillmore.  Summer is winding down, and I’m starting to make my fall plans for fitness, and my software business.

Feeling great!

Man, I’m 100% again.  I felt great during my ride today.  Completely pain free.  I rode the Rush extremely hard out to East Falls Church.  Felt good.  I changed the tape on the Rush’s handlebars today, briefly yellow, looked like crap so back to black!

Healed

Saturday before last, 200 miles.  Very sore, and had some tendonitis, especially in my achilles tendon, and ITB.  When I rode today, I was pain free for the first time, so I guess that I’m recovered.  So, recovering took approximately ten days.  I rested completely for one day after the 200 miler, and then started very light riding, increasing intensity over days as pain permitted.  Today I did an 18 mile training ride, medium intensity, and had a long stretch.  Felt good.

Lake Barcroft

I rode my Soma Rush over to my wife’s parent’s house today.  Here sister and niece were in town, and I pedaled over for a visit.  I rode around the Lake Barcroft community and thru Seven Corners.

El Mariachi Ride

Well, I would have done the Reston Century today, but my achilles tendon, and ITB has not completely healed.  Maybe next year.  I rode the El Mariachi today out to Falls Church.  I think that I probably have another week of healing in front of me before I can push my legs.

Frack!

Well, my left achilles tendon is still not healed enough to ride in the Reston Century tomorrow.  Son of a _itch.  I really would have liked to ride in this event.  During my ride today my tendon felt better than it did, even yesterday, but it still “comes to life” even after a short distance and moderate pressure.  No way it would hold up for 100 miles at pace.  Life goes on.  Some cool pictures of my El Mariachi and Rush.
